There are two 18-hole courses available at Reid Park in Springfield, the player-friendly South Course and the formidable championship North Course. The South Course, unlike its challenging sister course, is ideal for a casual round. The golf course is player friendly enough for beginners but there are still a few challenges in store. Jack Kidwell, an Ohio native who contributed many courses throughout the state, designed the layout, which stretches to just over 6,500 yards. The golf course has a classic design that is not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The rolling terrain is just hilly enough to provide subtly tricky contours but gentle enough to still be a great walking course. The playability of the layout is why the South is the home golf course to many of the area's high school golf teams.
