Course was in excellent condition
Greens and fairways were in wonderful shape so early into the season. Definitely a shot makers course. Highly recommend to everyone...it's worth the drive
Wicked Woods looks like a $ Million Bucks with Vastly Renovated Grounds
You definitely need a Better Golf Shot to play this course that is challenging, pleasant, and enjoyable. It can be a very rewarding feeling when you conquer some of its many obstacles.
Golfed this course many times last year and was always satisfied with the challenging nature of the course: Pitch and Slope of the Greens, Fairway Elevation Changes, Bunker Depths, Various Hazards, and of course the Wicked Unforgiving Trees lining both sides of most narrow fairways. Hook or Slice on a drive and say goodbye to your ball.
Went out there for the first time this season and was overwhelmed by how much of the deadwood, debris in rough areas, and overgrowth was removed - supplanted by new grassy areas. It opened up play in a lot of sections on holes as well as better sight lines, hence providing a more overall scenic look to the course. Plus, the renovation work goes on as they are fixing up tee boxes and further removing major brush areas. Hit a ball offline now, and you still likely have a playable shot in most instances.
Greens and Fairways are in excellent shape and provide a nice opportunity to play a course surrounded by scenic woods that may not be as wicked as in the past. But, this makes it a far more enjoyable game with less frustration.
Kudos to the new ownership that purchased the course in March 2015, which needed a ton of work after years of neglect and overgrowth buildup outside the lines. Manager Chris does a great job as a course ambassador and running the operation. Very friendly and helpful gentleman. If you need anything - just ask him.
Need work
Need signs directing golfers to the next hole in various locations
Good scenic course
Course is challenging and scenic. Well worth playing.
Awesome layout, great and tricky greens
Layout is super interesting. Each hole is very different and challenging in its own way. A few holes it is much better to hit 3 wood or long iron instead of a driver. Greens r very slopped and tricky which makes it fun. Greens were in great shape. Tee boxes not so good of shape but that is nearly irrelevant. Fairways and rough were good shape too. Nicest staff I've dealt with all year. Play here!
Fun to play!
Enjoyed playing here, fun to play if you manage to keep your ball in between tree lined fairways.......wicked greens also
Challenging course
A very scenic course with a challenging layout requiring good shot making and accurate drives off the tee. Fun to play. Lack of rain has had an impact on turf management on some fairways. Greens are in great shape.
Great course at great value
it's really worthy to drive 38 miles to get there. Even if we were late, staff welcome us with big smile. The course has lots of gorcious views and is great condition. Some tee boxes were bad shape and the green was slow, but in general great shape for what we paid - great value. We really enjoyed.
Great Golf for a Great Deal
We golf here regularly. What a great find to see it as a Hot Deal! Was fun golfing as always. Disappointing that they don't have license to sell beer on Sunday's though.
Nice round of golf
Hadn't played Wicked Woods before, but it was a beautiful day and the price was excellent for me ($10 for riding 18 holes, last minute special). This is a challenging little course with ample hills, trees and curves to make life difficult if you don't have decent shot placement. Greens for the most part were in very good to excellent shape, although they ran very fast and you could easily find yourself running downhill quite a ways before stopping. Pin placement was challenging but not impossible like some courses I've played. Fairways and roughs were OK, but the lack of rain and lack of watering has taken its toll in places where large brown patches and rock-solid dirt can make for a frustrating round. On the grass-covered portions, the grass height seemed to be appropriate. Some of the tee boxes desperately need something resembling grass, which isn't a huge issue for most of us since we're teeing it up anyway, but still...... I also thought the scorecard information wasn't great, nor was the on-course information about yardages.
All in all, a nice little course that could benefit from some slightly more adept groundkeeping. Very rural and secluded with some outstanding views, if you're looking to get away from the city. I will play it again, probably soon.
FINE
GOOD SHAPE; ESPECIALLY THE GREENS, TOUGH BUT FAIR. PEOPLE LET A SINGLE GO THROUGH SO I PLAYED 18 IN 150 MIN. GREAT !
Wicked Woods conditions
I question the reviews that were posted here. The tee boxes and greens are a mess ? We have always enjoyed playing Wicked Woods as it is a great layout. But I'm sorry this course needs some attention. Kind regards to the new owners.
Challenging but Fun!
As some of the other reviews say this course has its challenges. The greens and pin placement is extremely difficult. Most holes require a straight drive. I ended up playing decently well with the driver so it worked out, my buddy couldn't keep it on the fairway and it made for a very long day for him. Course is really nice for the money would expect to pay much more for a course that looks like it did. Overall had a good time and can't wait to go back.
Great place!!
What a nice golf course!! Great staff and great course conditions!! I'll be back!!!
Nice course
A nice, well maintained course. You can keep the driver in the bag most of the day. It seemed to play shorter than the yardage stated. Greens rolled smooth and true.
Hidden Gem
I absolutely love playing this course. The course is beautiful and Wicked challenging!
Pleasant surprise
First time playing here, enjoyed it and will return soon. Beware the course is very challenging and the front 9 especially will challenge your game!
After the rain
The course was in great condition after a full day of rain before I played and two inches the morning of. The greens were great! The fairways showed little signs from the rain.
Drive it STRAIGHT.
First time playing here, this course is very scenic and aptly named, many trees and rolling sloping greens and fairways. If the greens on this course get too fast it would be unplayable.
Overall, everyone should play a course like this once in awhile,it is a different type of challenge.
