Great!!
I have enjoyed playing this course the past two years.
9 Holes Closed
Back 9 was closed for green aeration. Would have been nice to know that before showing up. They gave us a certificate for 9 holes anytime later in 2013 as we had prepaid for 18.
Finding next tee box was a challenge on some holes, especially #6. Two of the par 4 holes on the front 9 have yellow aiming flags. Unfortunately starters did not tell us that and we had never played here before. As a result we hit short irons to an aiming flag only to discover the green was hidden behind the hill.
This course is fairly open for less experienced holders
Good course. Can not drive a cart under 18. My son is 16 with a drivers license. That made it difficult as I had an 11 and 13 year old also (2 had to walk). The Starter was very friendly. He gave my kids a couple balls to use on the island 7th hole. He seemed happy to see kids taking up the game. Overall, a nice place for less experienced players.
The course was in very good shape. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition.
The fairway grass was kept very short, as it should be. The ground was hard allowing for alot of roll after the shot. This feature made the course challenging and demanded distance control. The greens were some of the best I've seen, once again the turf on the greens was hard, making them very fast. This made approach shots very challenging. A nice feature you don't normally see on a public golf course in this area. The price was amazing but I would pay more to golf there again.
Friendly for all golfers
Deer pass is a course with many hazards( woods and water are in play on nearly every hole) but the overall difficulty of the course remains moderate. You don't have to be a pro to get shots to stick on the greens, and the greens are not too fast not too slow for putting. Relaxed dress code and atmosphere feels welcoming to golfers of all skill and passion levels.
Looking better
Have played this course multiple times in the past. It is slowly improving in regard to long term needs, but some of the daily issues were not being addressed well. The fairway grass was as long as the rough and at times it was easier to hit out of the rough. We still enjoy playing Deer Pass as it is convenient and familiar.
Fun place to play
Chad and his staff absolutely insist that everyone who comes to Deerpass has a great time. We play a different course in Northeast Ohio every week, and Deerpass has 3 of the top 10 holes in the area. A great value.
the fairway is as tall as an average rough
Greens were very firm and couldn't hold a shot, had to try and bounce on. The rough was atleast 4" tall and the fairway was atleast 2" tall. They left the dead cut grass on the course. The course illustrations were hard to understand and the course doesn't use stakes for distance markers, instead just colored stones covered by grass that just leaves it up to a full guess. I paid $7 with fees and wouldn't bother paying that again. They need to manage the course better.
Ok for the $$.. Continues to improve -- and NEEDS it!
This is a fun, challenging, and value-oriented course that has its share of warts. This is the 3rd time we've played the course. We found the greens relatively fast and rather hard making them tough to land and hold. This is compounded by inconsistent speeds from green to green and many holes that feature blind shots due to the rolling topography. The tee boxes are an absolute joke -- rock hard soil in most cases and the grass on them is almost indistinguishable from the fairway if they didn't have tee markers. Some tees have pictorial views of the hole to be played, others have hand written poster boards with the yardage ( Really ???) . Ball washers are spotty - some holes have them, others do not. First time players will be challenged if not exacerbated by the number of blind shots and unforgiving greens. If you stay in the fairway, great.... if not, the rough on this most recent visit was extremely difficult to play from and even more difficult to find balls in (we lost 8 between two of us and we're bogey golfers!). If you can get a deal like us $10-$15 for 18 with cart (and you often can do that), then it's worth what you pay. At $25 or $30, I think they have much more work and investment to make to be worth it. Have fun - just don't over-pay yet.
getting better
chad current mgr doing great job at course, improving it month to month. used to be cow pasture but muchimprovement and more to come, very good value and worth playing now
Interesting holes.
The course has some great features and great holes. Low spots make areas wet and soggy. Greens are extremely fast and have many subtle breaks and mounds. On the back nine, the fareways are pretty well filled in and good. The front nine, there are some sparce spots on the fareways. The front nine is built around lakes and some of the shots require precision as opposed to length. Overall, the course has some interesting and pretty holes. Though not one of the top tier courses, it still is a great deal for the price.
Nice course for the price
Deerpass is fine for what it is, a cheaper 18 hole golf course. The course is fine, a little jammed together especially on the back 9. With that being said, the staff is very friendly, the course was in good condition and was well worth the $20 spent on the weekend round.
Constantly making improvements
Great value for the money. A little tough the first time around due to many blind shots. Some design mistakes, but again for the money a great deal. Many greens slope back to front, so one less club on approaches is usually the way to go.
