Difficult back nine
Two holes had sprinklers broken in the greens, greens were soaked. Two greens on the back nine were burnt and had not been water the ground was so dry there were large cracks in the green, totally un puttable surface and not marked as ground under repair, half sand traps were MUD traps with NO sand in them, Have definetly seen this course in way better conditions over the last 7 years
Like the layout, but course not kept up.
Our foursome played the course on a Monday afternoon. Although we played at a good pace, we had to let 2 singles then 2 doubles play through. The greens were in good shape except for 13 and 14.
The tees were in bad shape and the fairways were not good either. The front nine is open and fairly easy. The back nine is challenging with steep hills and narrow fairways. If they took better care of the course, I would go back.
Grass missing on fairways is one of many problems
This course is close to my house and I had heard great things about it and the area around it is very nice. However, there was no starter, no real order to anything and it was a little chaotic. I arrived with my partner 20 minutes before our time and so did 4 other groups. We didn't know what order we were suppose to be in since there was no one in the clubhouse except the girl working inside the clubhouse who apparently had the job of being the bartender/hostess/starter and really didn't seem to know too much. Not her fault at all. One person should not have that much responsibility by themselves at a course that charges up to $43 for a tee time. So we acted as our own starter and went straight to the back nine since the other 3 groups were going to the front 9.
Now, on to the course itself: horrible conditions. The tee boxes were the only thing that looked like they were paid any attention to. There were tubes sticking out of the middle of the greens on the par 3 that drops off a cliff and on hole 1 or 2 has the same thing. No idea what it was for, but it had water coming out of it and pouring onto the green. The fairways in numerous spots on numerous holes had areas with no grass. Not from numerous divots not fixed by players, but from lack of attention. there was a ten square foot patch of dry land in the middle of the fairway of hole 16. Greens crew was all over the course and were not courteous to you as you were lining up a putt or getting ready to tee off. I could not have been more disappointed by a course that I had such high expectations for. Will not be returning, recommending, or even mentioning for a long time to come.
Not maintained well at all.
Most of the course is torn up. Maintenance workers follow you around with their loud equipment and just hover near you when you're trying to swing. We had a worker with a leaf blower follow us through 2 full holes stopping behind us for each shot. Very distracting. Cart paths are basically non existent which means the fairways are torn up from people driving down them. When cart paths are present they are not paved and not maintained AT ALL. I'm surprised we didn't flip our cart. Distance-to-hole markers are nearly impossible to see as they are the size of a small brick and usually buried under the fairway grass. It's very difficult to differentiate between the rough and the fairway. The maps on the scorecard and beginnings of each hole are basically useless because they are so inaccurate. And overall, the course was not pleasant to look at. It looks as if they haven't finished creating the course yet, but they still charge people what it would cost to play a legitimate course. Finally, the clubhouse is depressing and pathetic. No bar and no food choices other than hot dogs that have been sitting under a heating lamp all day. This course does not do anything to make you want to come back. They got your money already so apparently they don't care about you or your experience from that point on.
Course Needs Work
The course is in poor condition. It needs a lot of work to get it into playing shape. It does have several nicely configured holes. Then again, it has some holes where you scratch your head because they are fun house tricked up. I would not recommend playing this course when there are so many great courses to play in the area.
Great course...slow pace. Even during Fast Play!
Great course but plays extremely slow, even during fast play. Front 9 is open and very easy to shoot well. Back 9 is very tight and can be difficult for those who cannot hot their tee shots straight. 17 and 18 open up to be very nice holes. For the the value, $25 for 18 and a cart, it was good, however, I'd never pay full price of $43 to play this course.
Great course - great value.
The back nine is always tough but the front very forgiving. The tee boxes could be better but for the price its not that bad. Brandywine is a great course.
Great value, hard course
Tough course, back 9 was about as hard of a 9 holes as I have played. Well worth the value, some memorable holes like 9, 15, and 16.
Front nine is pedestrian, but back nine is very challenging.
Front nine is pedestrian, but back nine is very challenging.
Great course
Course is in a perfect setting and great shape right now given the weather conditions the past few weeks. I enjoyed all 18 holes and look forward to playing there again.
Great course for the money
We played 18 holes on a very hot day in the summer. The front 9 was very well maintained. The course was wooded and narrow so it's a challenge to stay in the fairway. The back 9 is a whole different story. The back is down in the valley and can get very humid with the lack of any breeze in the summer and even in the fall. The fairways are very winding and narrow. Definitely twice the diffculty level than the front 9.
Not for beginners
This very beautiful course is very challenging and not for beginners. The holes were built for golfers who are strategist not duffers. You have to be accurate shooter or you will end up in deep woods.. Looks are deceiving on two holes: a 178 yd shot is made with a 9 club or less. The next hole is 378 yd and is made with 2- #3 woods and a pitching wedge because the hole is in a shape of a "Z". I love this course.
A fun tricky course
Unique challenges in both the hills and the river bed of the Cuyahoga Valley.
Very Nice Layout, course is in great shape.
Good layout, the course is very well maintained. The front nine is very golf friendly, but the back nine is extremely difficult. It would be a killer for a beginner golfer, extreme challenge for an advanced golfer.
Bad Choice.
I will not go back to Brandywine again. It has been 3 years since I have played at this course because I said I wouldn't go back for a while because of the shape of the course, but I decided to give it another shot and see if it got better. It is one of the worst courses I have played, No sense of pride in the golf course, no sand in sand traps, greens in terrible shape, and one of the holes tee box was so bad that they put in a range mat to hit off of, and one of the blue tee boxes had a tree that made the hole unusable. Furthermore, I was embarrassed because we had some family up from Flordia and instead of spending quality time, it was marred by the complaints of the condition of the course.
Always a good experience at Brandywine.
We always enjoy the rounds we play at Brandywine. The staff is always accomodating, and friendly.
Not a very well designed golf course......stupid holes
The front nine is playable even though the conditions were poor but the back nine is totally bad....very narrow fairways on somw holes and a Z par five that makes no sense at all. Never again!
Enjoyed my round. Staff was great. Coarse is challenging.
I got a great deal and I could not be happier with the conditions and the challenge this coarse this presented.
Good Idea But
Course is challenging but could use some grooming. Traps are like a parking lot and there are remnants of grass in the fairways. Back nine is very challenging but in bad condition, some tee boxes are undone or might as well not be there. Course was a great place to play years ago but it appears they have let it go quite a bit. If you shop Golf Now and get a deal its probably worth the money but definitely not one of the better area courses.
Two different nines....back 9 is brutal.
Great prices for this course are found on GOLFNOW. Th e front and back nines are exact opposites. You will not hit any drivers on th e back nine. This nine is TARGET GOLF. Load up with balls and ENJOY the experience.
