Faiways are terrible
The absolute worst condition I have ever seen fairways in. And I mean every fairway of every hole. If you tried to play the ball as it lays you would be hitting from bare dirt on almost every shot. Even with the great green fee prices I will never play this course again, or recommend it.
The Ranger was very friendly. The greens were immaculate. The fairways needed work.
I had a slow group in front of me on the first hole and the Ranger came out and started me on the sixth hole. I then went around and play the back nine with no one in front of me. I came back to the first call and played one through six and finish my round in under three hours. The greens were in excellent shape in the fairways needed some work but they were marked off and I believe that they were working on them. i will definitely be back just because of how kindness staff was.
the course is great for money spent
Although the fairways were a mess and a lot of the tee boxes rock hard the greens were great and the pace of play was fast.
For 9 bucks it's worth it
Course is beat up but for 9 dollars for 18 it's good for beginners and mid/high handicap who want to work on the game. They need a ranger to keep the pace of play and they need to enforce more course etiquette. We played on a cart path only day and everyone was driving all over the course. They allow tank tops, gym shorts, cutoffs, blue jeans and so on, so you sort of get the idea who plays here
Needs Some Work
The fairways are terrible. The greens were in pretty nice shape. On one of the holes I hit a ball that should have been right next to the flag for birdie. Instead it hit a sprinkler head (right in the middle of the green) and I made bogie. Play was really slow and they didn't let us play through.
Great Potential with 36 holes and an Executive 18!
The day we played their A&H 18 it had rained and the course was wet and saturated. Course had lots of standing water and dead, brown or bald spots in the fairways! These courses have the potential to be great, as the hole layouts are excellent, but it needs some attention from a groundskeeping standpoint. Also
the front 9 was way too slow, as they jammed too many groups off and the time to play was 2-1/2 to 2-3/4 hours!!! Way to slow!!
The back opened up and we finished in 1-1/2 hours! Much better, but the super slow front 9 left a bad taste.
book and payed for 18 holes, pace of play was so bad that I quit after nine.
I've been hearing about how a lot of money has been put in this course and after playing it for the first time in about 4 years I didn’t see what all the hype was about. I can’t see how a course in this day and age can properly keep up with 2 18's and a par 3 course. There is a lot of competition in the area and this course just doesn’t come close.
Better maintenance would make this a great course.
The course was a creative, challenging mix of long and short holes, hazards and elevations (in some areas). What stop it from being a great course is largely maintenance. In most place there was no discernible difference between the fairway and the rough. Plus, the course is very poorly marked and there is no overall map to let you know where you are going. In many cases there was no cart path so it was a matter of driving around an open field to find the next tee box. Overall, it was a long drive to slightly better than a cow pasture.
under reconstruction
This course was a mess. There were no fairways to be found. You had more grass in the rough. Much of the course's fairways were roped off because of needed repair. The only part of the course that was in better shape were the greens.
I did like the high grass areas on the par 5 on Pine Valley. The course needs a lot of help.
Good Pace of Play
I played this course on 6/23/13 at 3:00 and was finished at 6:15. Played Audrey and Heatherstone and most of the holes were missing yardage markers so I had to guess on my distance. Green speed was slow to moderate but ball rolled smoothly. Got good value on GolfNow but would not pay full price for this course.
getting much better than it used to be
I have not played this course in many years because of the lousy condition it was in, but now it is much better than I remember it being. maybe someone new owns it or new people are taking care of it . greens were nice and smooth rolling, not too fast. my only gripe was that the rough was pretty tall making it hard to find the ball a few times and slowing play down, but all things considered much better than it used to be, I`ll be back
This course is in need of work or a new mower
One of the worst rounds of golf ever lost balls in the fairways very wet slow play I am far from being a good golfer but never this bad when you can not find your ball on the fairway someone needs to get to work reg price for 18 is $39.00 not a deal at all. I would never play at this course again.
A well designed casual course
Audrey/Heatherstone offers a nice casual 18, with wide open fairways. Course is kept in good condition. Worth playing at a discount but overpriced if bought at normal green fees.
Great Value, Friendly Staff, Needs a Little Upkeep
Good:
Challenging and fun course. We played the Pine Valley + St. Andrews 9's (The harder 18). Alot of turns and twists that require narrow or perhaps sometimes creative shots if you find yourself off-path.
Staff was extremely friendly and kind. Prices are great value.
Bad:
Scorecards need maps - playing for the first time, it was hard to find the next hole sometimes. Also, some holes have tight dogleg turns - a course map on the card would help players enjoy those tough holes even more to try to hit a more creative shot. Sometimes you can't tell where the green is and you hit short thinking you're making a smart layup then you get out there and realize you needed to really hang it out to get a good 2nd shot view.
Driveway is miserable - there are continuous huge potholes on the way into the course - I'm surprised I didn't ruin all 4 of my wheels. If that was a real road, the city would close it - it's that bad.
Course needs some overall upkeep improvements - tee boxes are a bit beat up, cart paths are inconsistent, sometimes non-existent. Parts of fairways are dead, etc. Nothing completely miserable, but definitely in need of some attention in certain areas. Typical of value-priced courses.
Way too many blind shots
Was a challenging course, many holes where you could not see the fairway or had really really tight tee shots. Even being an experienced golfer 3 tee shots where there was a tree right down the middle of the fairway seemed a bit excessive. Hard to score well and frustrating.
No course layout.
The course was in decent shape however many holes had blind tee shots and the scorecard did not offer a course layout. This made for a very frustrating round not knowing where to hit tee shots.
Value was good.
Play was a little slow. Tee boxes were little below average, tee boxes were rough, with markers tight, a few fairways needed work, greens were in good shape.
Good for a friendly round
I chose this course because it was convenient to a location I had to drop off my wife off at that morning. The course was only moderately challenging and was in good shape. Once I was able to play through a couple of groups, I was able to fly around the course.
I played the combo of pinevalley/st andrews. The pine valley 9 was very challenging. The st. andrews 9 was fun.
My first time at Emerald Woods was very enjoyable. I would certainly recommend it to others. The staff was friendly, the course was in nice shape, and the pace of play was great. For the money it was a good golf experience.
