Big improvement in 1 year.
As many know, this is the old Chi Chi Rodriguez course that was damaged many years ago by the tornados. They’ve been working hard to bring the course back, and it shows this year. I played last year here multiple times and thought I’d review from that standpoint.
Staff has always been exceptionally friendly, which is pretty rare these days and much appreciated. The new clubhouse is framed up and workers were actively building. The temporary building they are using is more finished than last year and they have some inventory (balls, snacks, gloves, etc).
Tee boxes were pretty rough last year and have dramatically improved. While some need time to come around, everything is level and doable. Some tee boxes were looking really good.
Fairways still have some ways to go, but definitely have improved. They were smoking fast today, but there’s some rain in the forecast that could change things pretty quickly.
Greens have significantly improved from last year. Expectedly, still some work to be done, but I really like the direction it’s going. I’d probably give them most improved. Last year, some putts would do weird things going through burnouts and such. This year, only one hole was like that. Serious improvement.
Pace of play was great and the course presents some challenges but is fairly forgiving to all levels.
Only negative I can say, Golf cart paths are pretty brutal. Bring covers for your clubs.
Also, there was a really pretty Husky there that’ll follow you around, so you get doggy kisses. 10/10. Will pet again.
I’m not saying it’s perfect, but, when they get this course back in shape, it’ll no doubt contend for one of the best in the area.
I’ll be back again for sure.
Time will make this course better
The course is slowly developing. As the seasonal weather gets better the fairways and tee boxes will only improve. Greens weren’t too bad for this time of year. We enjoyed our round knowing the course is in its developmental and recovery stage. We will definitely come back and play it again.
Keep up the great work!
The course layout is excellent, along with the scenery. The owner is fantastic as well. This course was destroyed by an EF-4 tornado on Memorial Day about two years ago. This owner is investing LOTS of time, effort, and money into this place to bring it back even better than before.
The fairways and greens need some work, but are improving every time I play here, a new clubhouse is going to start being constructed soon, and this place will be fantastic at that point. As for the scenery….it’s a beautiful layout with some wide open fairways, and some tricky holes as well. I recommend this course and seriously….give the owner your support…..he is busting his butt to bring this course back.
It will get better over time.
Course is in its rebuilding phase from being dormant for years. They are working to build it back up. No clubhouse or drinks/snacks, so you have to bring your own. No trash cans on course either so unfortunately trash is littered into the surrounding woods. Sand is actually pretty nice(unfortunately I spent too much time in the beach). Fairways are being reseeded this falll, so hopefully the grass will be better next season. Overall a good course and will look forward to seeing it improve over time.
Graywolf 10/13/22
Course is in the rebuilding phase there’s a lot of work to be done on fairway condition most greens are in good shape they have cleaned up the bunkers and put in new sand I was told there are plans for a clubhouse I’m hoping the progress will continue
Optimistic
I've had the privilege of playing many public and private clubs in the greater Dayton area. The layout and routing of Graywolf, previously Moss Creek, rivals the top 3 in the area. At 7,200 yards it is a true test of golf featuring tilted fairways, amphitheater greens, and strategically placed hazards. I've been cautiously optimistic about their revitalization efforts but I truly believe they are moving in the right direction. I'm intrigued what next season will bring after fairways and tees are overseeded, greens have more time to mature, and remaining dead trees get removed. A new clubhouse, full service bar, and locker services make this a very appealing place to call home. I would have absolutely no qualms making the 20 min drive to play here. Looking forward to what the future holds!
wirk in progress
The greens were very good and the bunkers have new sand and they were cutting edges on a holiday. The tees and fairways are atrocious, most tees have no grass at all ,the fairways are all crabgrass n dirt, but they are obviously working to bring this course back to near what is was. A new building probably a snack bar is built by hole 10. After all this course has been thru (closing then a tornado) it is good to see someone trying to get it going again, it will take time but i will definitely give them another try in the spring
Fun challenging course
Fun place to go! The only reason the pace got 2 stars was because of a foursome that slowed everything down other than that it was fun! Will be going back
Group of 7
This course was relatively cheap compared to other courses in the area. The fairways and greens were extremely dry, but I know it’s been under new ownership for a few months so it was as good as it can get. I played a solo round in 4.5 hours. After passing a foursome on #3. I then played 4-14 without any sight of anyone. It was a lot of fun. However when I pulled up on 15 I noticed a group of 7 on the hole ahead of me, absolutely clogging up the course. When I pulled up to the tee box on 16 I was not offered to play through. This resulted in the final 3 holes taking a full hour and fifteen minutes to play. Golf etiquette has died since 2020. I’d give it a 3/5 stars, would play again but only later in afternoon or super early in the day.
Nicely done!!!
Props to the Management Team, as the course has come a long way since opening late last Fall! I hope that it will be back to the old glory before this season is out and full glory by next season. The bunkers have all be manicured and filled with soft sand, trees and debris have been removed and much of the long grass and brush is down, cut back and no longer part of the surrounding environment. Some of the tee boxes still need some work, but they are working on these too!
Nicely Done!
Getting Better; Almost back!
I have played this course several times this year, especially when they first opened and it looks much better now, than it did in April or May! The rough is down, the fairways looks good and the greens are roiling good, considering the damage.
Can't wait for the club house to open, so that we finally get another full service GC in North Dayton!
The course needs alot of TLC. Irrigation and some fertilizer will help out alot. Pace of play was the longest I've played. 3 groups of older men that must have skipped class the day golf etiquette was taught and wouldn't let a 2 some thru. 1st hole is a par 5. Only hole all day we didn't have to wait. Came up to the 2nd tee box and there were 3 groups on the hole. Plus they have some ugly stickers stuck on the golf carts. ;) GO BLUE!
Incredible Track-Give it time to rebound to its glory
Such a great track…love the layout, Tornado from 2019 did some damaged but i think a few years of TLC will restore this course to superb conditions.
Good course, rebuilding
Good course. Greens and fairways are in great shape. Tee boxes and rough are not in great shape but that is the right order when rebuilding.
Give this place some time to rebuild. Course design is excellent. Rough shape on some places on the greens.
